Barrell Rum Private Release Finished in a Sauternes Barrel

Each release of Barrell Rum Private Release is a unique blend of rums from Barbados, Jamaica, and Guyana, as well as Rhum Agricôle from Martinique. Private Release Rum J756 has a base of Jamaican rum making up 75% of the final blend. The marrying and finishing were done in a sweet Sauternes Barrel. 

Jamaican rum is renowned for its high ester content, which is a natural byproduct of fermentation and distillation processes specific to the region. These esters contribute to what enthusiasts affectionately call "funk"—a deeply aromatic, often intense profile. The sweet Sauternes wine barrel finish  brings a soft, luxurious counterbalance to the Jamaican intensity. This barrel imparts layers of sweetness and fruit complexity, enhancing the rum’s natural molasses and brown sugar character while smoothing out the edges of the funky esters. The result is a multidimensional profile where molasses, dark sugar, tropical fruit, and dessert wine richness coexist in harmony.
